Chapter 8: Air and Air Pollution

State of the Planet

Air pollution is normally thought of as having a local effect, but there is increasing evidence that air pollution can not only travel between states, but also between countries and across the ocean. This video clip documents the work of Professor V. Ramanathan, a research scientist for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography of the University of California at San Diego, who tracks the movement of air pollution. This clip also examines the ozone hole that has formed over Antarctica.
