How Important is Deception When Kicking the Perfect Penalty?

In football the penalty kick is the ultimate duel as player and goalkeeper attempt to predict each other’s next move. A new study in the British Journal of Psychology examines the role of deception and deliberate exaggeration of movement in players of different abilities. The scientists found a significant relationship between less skilled players’ confidence and their penalty accuracy when using deception to beat the ‘keeper.
