Wiley Announces Partnership with PCG Education to Bring Paths to College and Career: A Comprehensive 6-12 English Language Arts Curriculum into the Classroom

June 9, 2015 (Hoboken, N.J.) – John Wiley and Sons, Inc. today announces a partnership with PCG Education, a leading provider of education consulting and technology to public K-12 clients for nearly 30 years, to bring the Paths to College and Career curriculum to classrooms nationwide.

The Paths to College and CareerEnglish Language Arts(ELA)curriculumprovides a pathway for teachers, and schools to help students achieve college and career readiness. Originally developed by PCG Education for the New York State Education Department and its EngageNY platform, this highly regarded curriculum was built from the ground up over a three-year period to address the Common Core State Standards and reflects a deep understanding of the standards and assessments. Paths to College and Career offers an improved and readily accessible version of the EngageNY curriculum. Written with a focus on the shifts in instructional practice and student experiences the standards require, it includes daily lesson plans, guiding questions, recommended texts, scaffolding strategies and other classroom resources.

“The Paths to College and Career curriculum is a comprehensive resource that will help ease schools’ transitions to the new standards and assessments,” said Lesley Iura, vice president and publisher for Wiley’s Education program. “The curriculum talks to teachers, giving them the guidance and support they need while simultaneously providing engaging, high quality texts that respect students’ range of capabilities, encourage rich dialogue and help students build knowledge on important topics.”

Wiley has worked closely with PCG Education to provide a curriculum that is flexible, user friendly, engaging and purposefully built to prepare students for career, college and life in general. At each grade level, Paths to College and Career delivers a yearlong curriculum that develops all student abilities to:

• Read closely and engage in text-based discussions

• Build evidence-based claims and arguments

• Conduct research and write from sources

• Expand their academic vocabulary

Designed to be adopted or adapted, lessons allow for teacher preferences and flexibility to both meet students’ needs and be in service to the shifts and the standards.

“We’re excited to partner with Wiley to present this accessible, affordable version of our highly regarded 6-12 ELA curriculum to schools and districts across the U.S.,” said Grant Blair, Director, PCG Education.
