Wiley and Chemical Industry Press to Launch Co-Branded Imprint

Frankfurt, Germany

John Wiley & Sons, Inc., (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb), is pleased to announce that they have signed an agreement with Chemical Industry Press (CIP) to publish a co-branded Wiley-CIP Series Imprint.

The signing ceremony took place this afternoon at the Frankfurt Book Fair, with attendance from representatives from the General Administration of Press and Publication – the main regulatory body for China’s publishing industry. Steven Miron, Vice President and Managing Director for Physical Sciences at John Wiley & Sons, formalized the relationship on behalf of Wiley, while Pan Zheng An, Editor-in-Chief at CIP, represented Chemical Industry Press.

The collaboration is aimed at developing a series of English-language advanced textbooks and reference books for a global readership of post-graduates, researchers and practitioners. The partnership will publish titles in Engineering, Materials Science and Chemistry during the initial phase, with potential to expand into other areas of science and medicine where CIP nurtures a rich community of distinguished authors.

As part of the agreement, Wiley will supply CIP with print copies of an English-language version for distribution within China at local market prices. This reinforces Wiley’s continued commitment to consistently deliver top quality content to its partners and the scholarly research community in China.

Mark Hammond, Wiley’s Editorial Director, Communications Technology said, “Two Electrical Engineering titles have already been approved in principle for inclusion in the series, and are scheduled for publication in early 2010. We seek to publish 5-8 titles over the next two years, with an eye to establishing the quality of the series; and to grow the published collection to 10-15 in its third year.”

Wu Gang, Deputy Director of the International Publishing Department at CIP, said, “We are delighted to be publishing with Wiley, and look forward to leveraging their publishing expertise and vast global networks to develop this series, and to disseminating future exciting discoveries to the world’s research community."

Pan Zheng An, CIP’s Editor-in-Chief, said “Wiley has always been focused on adding value to the content of Chinese scientific research while CIP is one of the top STM publishers in China, and has very close relationships with the local scientists. We believe that the collaboration between Wiley and CIP will bear great fruit, and help bring even more quality Chinese scientific research to the rest of the world."

“It is extremely symbolic that Wiley is launching this series at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, where China is Guest of Honour”, Mr. Miron added. “We are extremely proud to be publishing with such a prestigious partner, and look forward to being a part of that link that facilitates the bi-directional nature of research communication – bringing the best of Chinese content to the global community, as well as delivering the best of the world to China.”
