INSAR and Wiley-Blackwell to Publish Autism Research
Hoboken, New Jersey, October 18, 2007 Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa), (NYSE: JWb), and the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR) today announced their plans to launch a new journal, Autism Research (www.autismresearchjournal.com).
As the journal of the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR), Autism Research will cover the developmental disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (or autism spectrum disorders). The journal will have a strong focus on basic genetic, neurobiological and psychological mechanisms and how these influence developmental processes in ASDs.
“Autism Research promises to be an exciting new journal to serve both the scientific community and public by rapidly publishing papers promoting new findings that will advance science and knowledge in this crucial field of research. We are proud to serve as INSAR’s partner in this important endeavour,” said Colette Bean, Associate Publisher, Wiley-Blackwell.
Each edition of the journal will feature one or more commissioned high quality review articles, editorials on current issues in autism research, original research articles and brief reports. The journal will contain summaries of key papers relating to autism research that have appeared in other journals since the last paper edition of Autism Research. There will also be space for items relating to the activities of INSAR, news of meetings and other activities likely to be of interest to the autism research community.
Because INSAR is strongly committed to public involvement in science, authors of original scientific papers and reviews will be asked to submit lay abstracts. Lay abstracts will appear on the INSAR website (http://autism-insar.org/) and will be made freely accessible to the public. The journal will also publish regular podcasts of interviews with authors and overviews of scientific meetings that will give both the public and other scientists a greater understanding of some of the background and implications of current scientific developments.
“We are pleased to partner with Wiley-Blackwell, who shares our excitement about this new venture,” said Anthony J. Bailey, Editor-in-Chief. “We aim to rapidly publish work of the highest quality and ensure that exciting new developments are also communicated effectively to the public.”
“With the increase in public awareness of the autism spectrum disorders, there has been a concomitant increase in research activity aimed at understanding the fundamental mechanism causing these devastating disorders,” said Robert T. Schultz, President for INSAR, and one of four Associate Editors for the journal. “Since the founding of INSAR six years ago, we have experienced rapid growth of our organization and now are poised to launch a scientific journal of the highest quality. We could not be more excited to sponsor Autism Research and to build it into the leading publication in this area.”
About the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR)
The International Society for Autism Research (INSAR) is a scientific and professional organization devoted to advancing knowledge about autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), including autism, Apserger syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (PDD NOS).
