Wiley-Blackwell to Make 2,000 More OnlineBooks™ Available on Wiley InterScience®
Blackwell Publishing books online for the first time

Hoboken, N.J., December 3, 2007 —  Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., is launching a new digitization initiative which will soon make 2,000 additional books online for the first time and accessible to librarians, information professionals, academics, researchers and students worldwide.

Fifteen-hundred titles from Blackwell Publishing, 400 titles from Wiley-VCH, and several hundred book series volumes, such as the Novartis Foundation Symposia series, the Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds series, and the Wiley Statistics and Probability Series will appear on Wiley InterScience® (www.interscience.wiley.com) commencing in December 2007.

Wiley InterScience® is the online content delivery platform from John Wiley & Sons, which acquired Blackwell Publishing in February 2007.  The digitization and availability for licensing of 1,500 Blackwell books is a key immediate customer benefit of the integration of the two companies.

“With the recent merger, putting Blackwell’s books online was an obvious next step,” says Philip Carpenter, Managing Director, Social Sciences and Humanities, Wiley-Blackwell.  “We are pleased to be able to deliver the latest and most sought-after scholarly and professional titles as part of the already popular Wiley InterScience® OnlineBooks™ package,” he continued.

Among the 2,000 additional books will be leading titles in clinical and evidence-based medicine, life science, physics, chemistry, material science, social science and the humanities. “No other publisher has the breadth of online books that Wiley-Blackwell has and can serve such a broad range of research needs,” noted Steven Miron, Managing Director, Physical Sciences, “We have also led the way with a wide range of access and purchase options that have proved tremendously popular with our customers.”

The latest collection includes works from world-renowned scholars and theorists, such as philosophers Ludwig Wittgenstein, Sir Anthony Kenny, and theologist, Alister McGrath. Featured authors also include Nobel Laureates Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, Gerhard Ertl, and Robert Grubbs, as well as a host of other internationally recognized chemists, physicists, and life and medical scientists.

This launch is a significant expansion to the already robust collection of OnlineBooks™ on Wiley InterScience®, bringing the total number of available titles to 5,000 advanced texts, leading works, reference and scholarly books and book series in the professional, medical and scientific fields.

Wiley InterScience® OnlineBooks™ offers free access, indexes, table of contents and chapter summaries, and it provides full text access in PDF format to subscribers.
