Wiley Acquires Higher Education Titles from Key College Publishing
Hoboken, NJ, June 3, 2008 Global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa) (NYSE: JWb), announced today that it has acquired a list of higher education mathematics and statistics titles from Key College Publishing, the higher education division of California-based Key Curriculum Press. Key Curriculum Press is a leading publisher of inquiry-based textbooks, software and supplemental materials for elementary, middle and high school students.
The acquisition brings to Wiley 27 new mathematics and statistics titles and a number of award-winning authors—many of whom are among the most esteemed mathematics and statistics educators in the country. The titles will strengthen Wiley's current mathematics list, growing its offerings in the topics of introductory statistics, liberal arts math, and calculus.
"We are delighted to gain this well-respected list of titles from Key College Publishing, and we welcome their authors to Wiley," said Bonnie Lieberman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Wiley's Higher Education Business. "This acquisition offers us an excellent opportunity for targeted growth and expansion of Wiley's mathematics list both in the United States and globally."
The following are among the titles and authors that are moving to Wiley as part of the acquisition: The Heart of Mathematics, by Edward Burger of Williams College and Michael Starbird of the University of Texas, Austin; Workshop Statistics, by Allan Rossman and Beth Chance of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; and Calculus, by Brian Blank and Steven Krantz of Washington University.
"We are proud to have built this innovative collection of titles and to have closely worked with this extraordinary group of authors and educators," said Karen Coe, President of Key Curriculum Press. "With Wiley's knowledge, experience, and excellent reputation in mathematics publishing, we are confident that these titles and authors will thrive under its direction."
This sale allows Key Curriculum Press to concentrate on the K-12 market, particularly on the growing use of technology in the classroom.
