GRAND PRIZE -- Our grand prize winner for 2007 - and the recipient of a visit from Arthur Frommer, as well as their choice of 50 free Frommer's guides - is the La Pintoresca Branch Library of the the Pasadena Public Library in Pasadena, CA.
Their display theme was "May the Force of Frommer's Be With You!" The staff incorporated a variety of space-related (and "Star Wars"-related) elements into their display -- along with Arthur and Pauline Frommer, of course. They invited patrons to discover their own 8th wonder of the world using Frommer's guides, and displayed a variety of Frommer's guides in the library. The library also promoted the Frommers.com website in their Technology Learning Center lab. The use of Princess Pauline (Pauline Frommer's face with side buns atop a cardboard cutout wearing a Princess Leia robe) and Mr. Frommer's face looking down from a silvery moon-like celestial object were additional elements of fun.

FIRST RUNNER-UP -- Our first runner-up is the Charleston Airforce Base Library in Charleston, SC.
For their display, the staff at Charleston AFB created a Frommer's Family Transport-themed display, complete with a life-size cardboard cutout family, set of luggage, and a "Frommer's Airlines" desk covered in Frommer's guides. The staff really played up the family aspects of travel with a poster proclaiming, "Frommer flies Air Force families around the world!"

SECOND RUNNER-UP -- Our second runner-up is the St. Charles Parish East Regional Library of Destrehan, LA.
The theme for Louisiana's summer reading program happened to be "Book a Trip" so the staff created display cases throughout the library incorporating Frommer's travel guides into their overall theme. Arthur Frommer appeared in several locations throughout the library - including the main floor where he directed patrons to "Book a Trip with Frommer's". The main portion of the library featured a Frommer's travel display on top of all the bookcases with many guidebooks and photos of sites and landmarks around the world.

THIRD RUNNER-UP -- Our third runner-up is the Evergreen Branch Library of Everett, WA.
Their Frommer's travel display theme was "Travel and Taste the Flavors of the World". Along with Frommer's travel guides, their display exhibited maps of various countries and pictures of spices commonly used in the cultures' cuisines. A strong focus of the Frommer's guides has always been enjoying local experiences, and local flavors are part of that. We thought this was a very original and inventive way to look at travel as an exploration of flavors and culture. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide photos in a web-quality format.
A big thank you to everyone who entered!
