Wiley provides access, funds for Haiti
To support the immediate relief effort following the Haitian earthquake, Wiley has enabled free access to all our health sciences journals in Wiley InterScience for health workers in Haiti. This is part of the Emergency Access Initiative (EAI) from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), which allows for immediate online access to be opened up for a set period, usually 4 weeks, following an incident. See http://eai.nlm.nih.gov for more information.
Free full access to systematic reviews in The Cochrane Library is also available to all residents in Haiti and many surrounding countries through Cochrane Evidence Aid. Wiley publishes The Cochrane Library on behalf of the international organization that evaluates medical research, The Cochrane Collaboration. In addition to evidence reviews, visitors can access topical evidence summaries, such as wound, fracture, and trauma treatments, among others. For access and more information, click here.
As a caring community, Wiley and its colleagues are also donating funds to relief efforts. Wiley is matching colleague donations made to non-profit organizations for Haiti response during January.
Building a Better World
Sustainability is not a new concept at Wiley, a company that has prospered for more than 200 years. Throughout our long history, we have understood that the rights and privileges of citizenship go hand-in-hand with responsibility to the communities we serve and where we live and work. The Wiley Vision describes our role as a corporate citizen.
Wiley’s activities and achievements, detailed in Workplace, Environment, Governance, and Community, provide evidence of our commitment and represent a foundation to build upon.
Inspiring Change
In 2008, Wiley initiated a company-wide Corporate Citizenship effort to address the key social, economic, and environment challenges we face in our business that are most important to our diverse stakeholder groups: colleagues, authors, customers, partners, and shareholders. We took a careful look at our policies, practices, and initiatives, and concluded that while there are areas—such as governance, colleague engagement, community/philanthropy, and workplace—where Wiley is an industry leader, we should formalize and globalize our policies and strategies; improve our internal and external communications; and be more proactive in addressing our carbon footprint and supply chain issues.
