Heart study suggests city centre pollution doubles risk of calcium build-up in arteries

City centre residents who took part in a study were almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery calcification (CAC), which can lead to heart disease, than people who lived in less polluted urban and rural areas, according to research published in the May issue of the Journal of Internal Medicine.

Psoriasis Patients Face Higher Than Average Death Risk after a Heart Attack

Heart attack patients with psoriasis are 26 per cent more likely to die from cardiovascular disease, or suffer from recurrent heart attacks or strokes, and are 18 per cent more likely to die from all causes than those without the inflammatory skin disease. That’s the key finding of a Danish study published in the September issue of the Journal of Internal Medicine.

Heart attack risk increases rapidly after rheumatoid arthritis is diagnosed

The risk of having a heart attack is 60 per cent higher just a year after a patient has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, according to research published in the December issue of the Journal of Internal Medicine.
