Designed as a core text for French literature survey courses, Tome I of this two-volume anthology covers the medieval period to the 18th century. Most selections are complete works, and all of the ancillary material is written entirely in French. Following the presumption that the contextes are essential to understanding the textes, Berg includes extensive pedagogical elements designed to stimulate thinking and discussion about the selections.
