  • Table of Contents
This text provides a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the magnetic properties of various types of functional materials, including magnetic composites, nanomaterials and intrinsically smart materials. The authors then explore the biomedical applications of each, such as ferrofluids for biomedical diagnoses and therapies, and magnetic biosensors and biochips. The book is designed so that those new to the subject can quickly obtain an overall picture of the field, and for professionals and researchers to be able to easily locate relevant information, and use the book as a reference. The book begins with a full introduction to basic biological and physical science principles, as well as setting out fundamental information on magnetic materials. The following chapters discuss the magnetic properties of composite materials  (including both the physical and chemical background), important for the development of functional magnetic nanoparticles, nanospheres, and ferrofluids. The next chapters look at the biomedical applications of the materials, as well as analyzing the place of nanomaterials in these applications. The final chapters cover intrinsically smart materials, how these are used for magnetic biosensors and biochips, and their biomedical applications.
