RICK CARROLL, author of IZ Voice of The People, the first biography of legendary Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, is the bestselling creator of Hawaii’s Best Spooky Tales, the six-volume sequel to Chicken Skin True Spooky Tales of Hawaii and Madame Pele: True Encounters with Hawaii’s Fire Goddess.

A former daily journalist at the San Francisco Chronicle, Carroll wrote award-winning travel and feature stories about Hawaii and the Pacific for the Honolulu Advertiser and covered Hawaii and the Pacific for United Press International.

MARCIE RASMUSSEN CARROLL, former communications director for the Hawaii Convention and Visitors Bureau, has written and edited political, environmental, and other news for the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, and UPI in Atlanta. She was a Journalism Fellow in Asian studies at the University of Hawaii and in energy studies at Stanford University.
Together, the Carrolls, who moved to Windward Oahu in 1983, collected and edited Travelers Tales Hawaii: True Stories of the Island Spirit, now in its second edition, an anthology praised as "the best collection of contemporary Hawaii travel stories." They are also the authors of the extensively revised and rewritten fourth edition of the Unofficial Guide to Hawaii.
