Statistical Reasoning and Methods

Statistics plays an important role in daily lives and plays an increasing role in almost all professional fields. Johnson and Tsui's goal in writing Statistical Reasoning and Methods is to educate students to become critical consumers of statistical information provided by others. Students will also learn how to collect good data and assemble information in a way that leads to better understanding of a product, service, or the environment.

This text is designed to introduce basic statistical concepts and methods and to show how they enhance critical thinking and reasoning. Statistical Reasoning and Methods can be used for any first elementary one-quarter or one-semester statistics course. The topics covered are the most important ones common to any first course in statistics for freshman and sophomores. The text concentrates on the main concepts and methods, placing more emphasis on reasoning than is currently available in most introductory statistics textbooks.
