He is presently Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He has written four other books on bioorganic chemical topics. His present research is concerned with producing an organic chemical model of an acyl-chymotrypsin intermediate and synthesizing and evaluating an organic chemical model of the enzyme chymotrypsin. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Raymond J. Bergeron was born March 26, 1945, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He received his BS from Clark University and a PhD in organic chemistry from Brandeis University under the direction of J. B. Hendrickson. He was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University in Professor Conrad Bloch's Laboratories. Dr. Bergeron was an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland where he was an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow. He then moved to the University of Florida, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry. He also holds joint positions in the Department of Medicine, College of Medicine, and Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Makoto Komiyama is Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Tokyo. Among his awards is the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists. Dr. Komiyama's research interests include cyclodextrin chemistry, functionalized polymer chemistry, and molecular complex chemistry. He received his BA and PhD degrees in chemistry from the University of Tokyo.
