The fourth edition has undergone significant revision with the addition of two new co-authors, and retains the pedagogical strengths that made the previous editions so popular, including the use of real data in the examples. The goal of this edition is to make the book more accessible to the wide audience of engineering students by including even more motivational examples, real-world computer applications, and computer exercises.
We've also changed the organization a bit - we now start right off with probability theory in Chapter 1, and progress through random variables, discrete and continuous distributions, and then normal distribution, before introducing statistics and data description techniques in Chapter 8.
Special topics in the new edition include nonparametric statistics, a section on p-values in hypothetical testing, coverage of residual analysis, and more material on quality control and experiment design. Provides chapter introductions, including interesting historical information
Suitable for a two-semester sophomore/junior level course, as well as a one-semester refresher for first-year graduate students.
