RUSSELL BOURNE worked initially at Life magazine and as an editor at the Smithsonian and Time-Life and American Heritage Books. In the past two decades he has written eight American history narratives. During the Korean War, he was a U.S. Army counterintelligence agent in Berlin. He lives in Ithaca, New York.
