Both a survey and a remedial effort, this work focuses on pollution by smelters of the surrounding aquatic ecosystems. Contributors examine the chemical and biological effects of smelter pollutants -- particularly their impact on lake acidification -- and supply models for quantifying the effects of smelter emissions. Rehabilitative measures for the acid-stressed lakes are also presented.
