Joseph Mitola III is known as "the Godfather of the Software Radio." He is one of the most highly cited authors in the field, contributing over two dozen technical papers as well as his recent text, Software Radio Architecture, the first interdisciplinary treatment of the subject and companion to SOFTWARE RADIO TECHNOLOGIES: SELECTED READINGS. Dr. Mitola edited the landmark May 1995 special issue of the IEEE Communications Magazine and the April 1999 Journal on Selected Areas in Communications on Software Radio. He began his career with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) in 1967 and is presently a consulting scientist with the MITRE Corporation, advising the DoD on telecommunications and information-processing technology and policy.

Zoran Zvonar, noted author and researcher, has served as editor and coeditor for many distinguished publications, including the International Journal of Wireless Information Networks, the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, GSM Towards 3rd Generation Systems and Wireless Multimedia Networks Technologies (Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1998 and 1999, respectively), among others. Dr. Zvonar is currently an associate editor of the IEEE Communications Letters and a feature editor of the Series on Software and DSP in Radio in the IEEE Communications Magazine.
