Authors Note: Note that refers me to Appendix A for information on a reg setting "that prevents Exchange 2000 from attempting to upgrade Universal distribution groups to Universal security groups."
Reader:
I checked Appendix A on http://media.wiley.com/product_ancillary/75/07821279/DOWNLOAD/2797AppA.pdf and
> found nothing. I read the entire appendix and even searched for

> A is missing an entry or the Note should be removed.

Author:
I had to do some real digging to find out why this was not
really in the book, but I finally found it. There is NO registry
setting for preventing conversion of UDGs to USGs. I wrote that very
early in the process of getting the book together and wrote it based on
some info that I was waiting for from someone at PSS. The setting is in
the directory and is accessible via ADSIEdit. Open the Configuration
container and browse down to the Exchange organization object (for
example CN=Somorita Surfboards) and display it's properties. Then,
locate an attribute called msExchDisableUDGConversion. Set this to a
value to one of these three values:

0 - (default) Allow UDG to USG conversion
1 - convert if a store process requests it
2 - never convert

Microsoft recommends that you do not set this to anything but 0
unless you have a good reason to prevent UDG's from being converted to
USGs (such as reducing the number of security principals in the AD.)

Thanks,

Jim McBee
