SHARAN B. MERRIAM is professor of adult education at the University of Georgia. RALPH G. BROCKETT is professor of adult education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is the co-editor-in-chief of New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, a journal published by Jossey-Bass.
