WILLIAM A. BRYAN is professor emeritus of education in the Watson School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He served as a chief student affairs officer for eighteen years and is past president of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and the ACPA Educational Leadership Foundation. He has been actively involved in student affairs practice for thirty-seven years.

ROBERT A. SCHWARTZ is associate professor of higher education and student affairs at Florida State University. He has been active in higher education as a faculty member and administrator for twenty years.
