Press Release

May 23, 2013
New Tools to Inspire, Encourage, and Develop the Next Generation of Leaders

There are few people who have studied leadership more than Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, developers of The Student Leadership Challenge and The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, a model that originated in a research project they began in 1982.

For more than 30 years, these two leadership scholars have been studying leaders, researching leadership, conducting leadership development seminars, and serving in various leadership capacities themselves. The Student Leadership Challenge describes and illustrates with student case examples the complex ingredients of effective leadership that demonstrate how any student or young person can lead, regardless of age or experience. Over the last 15 years, this model has helped thousands of students make extraordinary things happen in their organizations and communities. The Student Leadership Challenge Facilitation and Activity Guide and The Student Workbook and Personal Leadership Journal are two new companion resources for high school and collegiate leadership educators, facilitators and students.

• Addresses contemporary and relevant student and youth issues

• Reflects demographic changes in young leaders today

• Written from the perspective of actual students

• Designed for use with or without other leadership models and resources, including the LPI*

*The Student LPI is an assessment tool designed specifically to help young people measure their leadership behaviors and take action to improve their effectiveness as leaders, and is available in print and online formats.
