The Second Edition of Más allá de las palabras, Intermediate Spanish is a culture-based intermediate Spanish program, designed for use at the third and fourth semesters of college study, that integrates language-skills instruction with subject-matter content. Fully supported with technology, this program addresses the 5 Cs of ACTFL's Standards for Foreign Language Learning. Culture and language are carefully balanced and tightly integrated so that students accomplish meaningful communication in Spanish, and make connections to other disciplines such as history, geography, politics, music and literature. Más allá systematically prompts students to make comparisons between Hispanic cultures and their own, and to use their knowledge of English grammar to support their learning of Spanish.

Más allá de las palabras, Intermediate Spanish, is theme-based from chapters 1 through 5, and it is organized around regions of the Spanish-speaking world from chapters 6 through 10.

The title Más allá de las palabras, or Beyond Words, reflects the primary goal of this program: to ensure a smooth transition from the practical knowledge of Spanish that is necessary to carry out daily tasks to a deeper understanding of the language and cultures of the Hispanic world.
