The International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering publishes original papers describing significant, novel developments in numerical methods that are applicable to engineering problems in solids, structures, multi-physics (including fluid-structure interaction), multi-scale and multi-disciplinary problems, including model reduction, uncertainty quantification, and verification and validation. Manuscripts that focus on fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, heat transfer and other diffusion phenomena, and mesh generation will normally not be considered, unless they fall within one of the aforementioned research areas.
Numerical examples that illustrate numerical methods or their accuracy are encouraged. However, manuscripts dealing with applications of existing methods, or dealing with research areas which are no longer considered as cutting edge, including, but not exclusively, numerical methods for 1D problems such as beams, bars and trusses, developments for the method of fundamental solutions, for the method of lines, in finite difference formulas, and theorem proving for model problems, will generally not be considered for review.
The journal publishes full-length papers, which should normally be less than 25 journal pages in length, and short communications, which can be at most 8 journal pages. Discussions of papers in print are considered. However, two-part papers will not be considered for review.
