The Journal of Public Affairs is an essential resource for those who need to stay in tune with the ever-evolving discipline of public affairs. Tackling themes such as government relations and lobbying, issues management, community relations, corporate social responsibility and political strategy and marketing, the journal is now firmly established as the leading international forum for public affairs professionals in private and public sector organizations and academic observers in universities and business schools.
The journal aims to provide the following:
- Industry case studies focusing on the real-life challenges and problems faced by major private and public sector organizations, and the lessons learned.
- Applied research from leading business schools, research institutes and universities, with significant implications for public affairs practice.
- State-of-the-art papers written by expert practitioners and academics sharing thought-provoking and stimulating articles on the challenges facing the public affairs professional today.
- Practitioner articles addressing the latest thinking, techniques and best practice.
- Book reviews providing a 'thumbnail' of the best writing in public affairs.
The Journal of Public Affairs provides an international forum for refereed papers, case studies and reviews on the latest developments, practice and thinking in government relations, public affairs, and political marketing. The Journal is guided by the twin objectives of publishing submissions of the utmost relevance to the day-to-day practice of communication specialists, and promoting the highest standards of intellectual rigour.
The Editorial Board welcomes the submission of papers, briefings, case studies and reviews for publication. Authors submitting articles for publication should indicate which section of the Journal they wish their paper to be considered for: academic papers or practice papers. An essential criterion for the publication of academic papers is that they add to the literature; for practice papers that they are of direct relevance and of use to those involved in the management of business and organizational communication. All articles submitted will be subject to double-blind refereeing.
Reviews
"By publishing original material and progressive ideas,
Journal of Public Affairs
recognizes that the dearth of analytical work currently available to the public affairs professional necessitates anticipatory and innovatory research aimed at those charged with advancing corporate and political strategy.
Journal of Public Affairs
thus provides a valuable source of ideas and experience for sharp-end practitioners and academics alike."
Tom McNally, Weber Shandwick
"
Journal of Public Affairs
fills a vital niche in the professional and academic literature on public affairs. This first-rate journal helps academics and senior practitioners learn from one another the strategic and ethical options of making organizations more effective players in local, national, and global societies and economies."
Bob Heath, University of Houston
"
Journal of Public Affairs
addresses some of the most important issues in contemporary civil society. Practitioners and researchers concerned with addressing and utilizing the substance behind these political brands will find the case studies and applied articles in
Journal of Public Affairs
essential reading."
Lloyd Dennis, former head of Public Affairs Section, Public Relations Society of America
"In rapidly changing environments, successful executives and managers understand that competing to affect the rules of the game is often as important as competing to offer better products or services.
Journal of Public Affairs
is an invaluable forum for research and case studies that help us understand how organizations compete in the various political arenas in which they operate."
Professor Gerald Keim, W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University
"If public affairs is to take its rightful place at the centre of business strategy, it is important that public affairs professionals and academic observers have a space in which they can debate fundamental issues and explore both success and failure.
Journal of Public Affairs
will allow us all to develop the intellectual capital and ethical practice of our industry."
Leighton Andrews, University of Cardiff
