Since its launch in 1980, POLITICS has carved out a distinctive niche, publishing cutting-edge political analysis in a short-article format. Broad in scope and readable in style, it analyses developments in contemporary politics in the UK, Europe and around the world, advances political theory and serves as the ‘bulletin board’ for the discipline. Articles and debates deal with key issues for our times and engage with the major themes of the discipline. The short-article format means that articles are provocative, punchy and readable.

The ethos of POLITICS is the dissemination of timely, research-led reflections on the state of the art, the state of the world and the state of disciplinary pedagogy. Politics is pluralist with regards to approaches, theories, methods, and empirical foci. POLITICS publishes articles of either 4000 or 6000 words. We welcome 3 types of articles from scholars at all stages of their careers: Concise discussions of state of the art research in progress; Research-led reflections on contemporary events in politics or international relations; Theoretically informed reflections on the pedagogical challenges of learning and teaching in politics and international relations.
