Die Unterrichtspraxis/Teaching German is a journal devoted to the improvement and expansion of German teaching in the United States. It provides a forum where the following may be presented, elaborated, and discussed:
- the recent advances in scholarship on language teaching and learning
- practical suggestions for implementing this scholarship in German classrooms
- information concerning relevant teaching and source materials
- information about the linguistic, social, political, and cultural landscape of German-speaking countries
- assessments or suggestions regarding the betterment of the German teaching profession
Die Unterrichtspraxis/Teaching German publishes pedagogical articles, reports, teaching tips, news, discussions, book reviews, software and video reviews, current advertisements and other material of interest to teachers of German at all levels of instruction. The languages of publication are German and English.

The American Association of Teachers of German seeks a new Editor for Die Unterrichtspraxis/Teaching German for a three-year renewable term to begin in January 2011. Transition work will begin in mid 2010. Die Unterrichtspraxis/Teaching German, published twice yearly since 1968, is a peer-reviewed journal established for the purpose of promoting and supporting excellence and innovation in the teaching of German language, literature, and culture in North America at all levels.
It embraces both the practical and the theoretical, attempting to insure that practitioners are kept abreast of trends in education, language teaching, research and of new materials on the market. We seek an Editor well versed in contemporary trends and issues in our field who will actively solicit submissions that reflect the needs of practitioners at all levels.
The Editorship is a voluntary position and carries no salary. The Editor is responsible for selecting the Editorial Advisory Board, the Book Review Editor and the Technology Editor. The ideal applicant will be a senior scholar in the field of German language education with editorial and research experience, superior command of both German and English academic writing and the ability to manage the on-line submission of materials. Applicants for the position should submit a curriculum vitae and a letter stating their qualifications and plans for the editorship, along with written statements of support from their administrative dean and department chair.
Minimal institutional support would include: access to an outside telephone and fax line with long distance privileges; high speed internet access; e-mail account capable of attachments; computer support capable of dealing with and converting between MAC and PC formats; software packages (to create PDFs, handle spreadsheet tables, do basic graphics conversions, convert among most popular word processing formats); released time; modest travel and supplies budget, and a part-time student assistant.
