Alphavirus Special Issue

The September 2007 edition of Journal of Fish Diseases is a special edition devoted to the increasingly important Alphavirus group of infections of salmonid fishes. The principal contribution is a Keynote 'State of the Art' Review by the scientists who originally isolated these viruses , at the Northern Ireland Veterinary Research Institute, Dr Marian McLoughlin and Dr David Graham. Already they have published a number of papers on the subject in the Journal of Fish Diseases and this review brings together all of this work and puts it in overall context.

This is followed by three original research papers on the subject, defining the biophysical properties of the members of the Group and papers on the isolation of the viruses in Norway Italy and Spain. The papers are part of the output of the Tri-partite working group on the subject (Norway Ireland Scotland) which has stimulated most of the resurgence of scientific interest on this important and enigmatic group of fish viruses.
