The subject matter is broad and includes, but is not restricted to, findings from biological, educational, genetic, medical, psychiatric, psychological and sociological studies, and ethical, philosophical, and legal contributions that increase knowledge on the treatment and prevention of intellectual disability and of associated impairments and disabilities, and/or inform public policy and practice. Expert reviews on themes in which recent research has produced notable advances will be included. Such reviews will normally be by invitation. Anyone expert in his/her particular field wishing to submit an uninvited review is advised to seek prior guidance from the Editor. The Journal also includes brief reports, occasional letters, and an 'Hypothesis' section. All papers are assessed by expert referees.

Journal of Intellectual Disability Research Special Issue: Working Memory and Executive Functioning in Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities
Guest Editors: Lucy Henry, Cesare Cornoldi & Claudia Mahler
Children and adults with intellectual disabilities often have difficulties with working memory and executive tasks. However, more research is needed to fully understand the range of strengths and weaknesses of this population and to develop appropriate theoretical models to account for their performance. This special issue of JIDR seeks high quality empirical or theoretical papers that investigate working memory and/or executive functioning among individuals with intellectual disabilities. Papers on any aspect of working memory (including short-term memory) and executive functioning are welcome, from any well-founded theoretical perspective. Papers should be submitted by 31st October 2009. The special issue is scheduled for publication in 2010. Please direct all enquiries to henrylc@lsbu.ac.uk.
Submissions should be through Manuscript Central. Please indicate that your submission is for the Special Issue by selecting that choice from the 'manuscript type' drop down list and please also mention this in your covering letter.
Journal of Intellectual Disability Research Special Issue: Challenges of Residential and Community Care: An analysis and appraisal of supported living programs across the lifespan
Guest Editors: Roy Brown and Trevor Parmenter
The goal of this special issue is to reflect supported living across the life span, including a rigorous analysis of current and past practices and philosophies. Colleagues, who have carried out empirical research on the above topic, are invited to submit papers examining the residential, home care and support issues that are now confronting society in the field of developmental and intellectual disability. It is anticipated that articles will examine issues facing families and individuals where there are severe behavioural challenges. Articles that include innovative options such as person-centred planning would be of particular interest.
Authors should submit their papers, no longer than 4500 words, consistent with the Journal's requirements, no later than September 30th, 2009. All articles will be independently reviewed. Submission should be through Manuscript Central. Please indicate that your manuscript is for this special issue by selecting its Special Issue title from the 'manuscript type' drop down list, and please also mention this in your covering letter which should be addressed to one of the Guest Editors.
