Special Issue - Australian Canopy Crane (Vol. 32 Iss. 1 Feb 2007)
The forest canopy has been called 'the last biological frontier', with scientific interest in the above ground layers of forests rapidly increasing. One of the major stimuli for canopy research has been the introduction of industrial cranes into forests as a means of providing safe and easy access to large sections of the canopy. This special issue of Austral Ecology will provide a summary of what has been learnt about Australian tropical forest canopies through this new tool and poses new hypotheses about the structure and function of forest canopies and the biota associated with this remarkable
part of the forest ecosystem. Furthermore, this will be the first time that a holistic story about the canopy of a single forest has been put together in this way.
