Virtual Issue: Guidelines for the Management of Traumatic Dental Injuries

The International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) has developed guidelines for the treatment of traumatic dental injuries. A group of experienced specialists and researchers have agreed on a consensus statement after review of the dental literature and group discussions. The guidelines represent the current best evidence for treatment of dental injuries and the aim is to update and guide the clinician to give the optimal treatment in the emergency situation and the critical follow up period. Our journal is now publishing these guidelines in the forthcoming issues. In this issue, guidelines for the treatment of fractures and luxation injuries of permanent teeth will be given. In the next issue of our journal we will cover avulsion injuries of permanent teeth and in a later issue, the treatment of injuries to primary teeth will be published. Updating the Guidelines is a continuously ongoing process on the IADT web page http://iadt-dentaltrauma.org. In addition to the clinical guidelines, there is also a forum for discussion on this web page and a possibility to download information for professionals and the public. I am convinced that dental trauma patients all over the world will greatly benefit from these initiatives. -Editorial by Lars Andersson
