Focusing on the early diagnosis and treatment of all mental health problems and disorders, Early Intervention in Psychiatry promotes the importance of early intervention in psychiatric practice. Articles across the full range of psychiatric disorders are welcomed, including schizophrenia and other psychoses, mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, eating disorders and personality disorders, as well as the underlying epidemiological, biological, psychological and social mechanisms that influence the onset of these disorders. Papers in the following fields will be considered: diagnostic issues, psychopathology, clinical epidemiology, biological mechanisms, treatments and other forms of intervention, clinical trials, health services and economic research and mental health policy.

HOT OFF THE PRESS: Inaugural IEPA Short Film Festival Draws Overwhelming Response

Early Intervention in Psychiatry and Wiley-Blackwell were there to film it!

Melbourne, Australia - 4 February 2009
Three short films from the inaugural International Early Psychosis Association (IEPA) Short Film Festival are available FREE online as part of the February issue.

The journal was present at the IEPA Short Film Festival, where a camera crew worked the red carpet and interviewed some of the producers of the films and participants at the festival.

All participants emphasized the educational value of the films, highlighting their unique role in accentuating positive steps in the journey to recovery. The bi-annual conference provided an ideal opportunity to showcase the various creative multimedia produced by early psychosis services and individuals around the world to an international audience - helping not only to raise awareness about the importance of prevention, but also helped combat stigma and instil a sense of hope for those newly diagnosed.

Message from the Editor

It is with great pleasure and optimism we announce a new journal, Early Intervention in Psychiatry, officially launched at the International Early Psychosis Association (IEPA) Conference in Birmingham, UK, on October 5, 2006.

In contrast with mainstream healthcare, early diagnosis and intervention has come late to the field of psychiatry. Building on the exponential progress in early psychosis over the past decade, as well as widespread interest around the world in preventive psychiatry, it is now timely to broaden the early intervention focus. Early Intervention in Psychiatry creates a common forum for researchers and clinicians, with an interest in the early phases of a wide range of disorders, to share ideas, experience and data. The journal not only fills a gap, but helps create and extend a new frontier in academic and clinical psychiatry.

I would like to extend a warm invitation to all potential researchers and authors to contribute to Early Intervention in Psychiatry.
