(Formerly British Journal for Eighteenth-Century Studies)Published on behalf of the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies
Edited by:
Dr Chris Mounsey
The Journal for Eighteenth Century Studies publishes articles relating to the eighteenth century, on specific questions of interest to eighteenth-century scholars, as well as on interdisciplinary questions. At the journal's launch in 1972, its first editorial alluded to the discipline boundaries then current, such as literature, science, history, art and music.

Special Issue on French Theatre!
In 2001, John Golder discovered a set of historically significant documents and drawings of the Hôtel de Bourgogne. To celebrate this propitious discovery and publication of these documents, Journal for Eighteenth-Century Studies has compiled this new special issue. It deals with the broad range of matters implied by the English term 'theatre' and the French 'vie théâtrale' from essays on theatre buildings and architectural theory to audiences and offstage performance. This is the first time that the journal, which made clear by dropping the word 'British' from its title that its concerns were not with exclusively eighteenth century British culture, has published a bilingual issue of this kind. We hope it will not be the last.
