British Society of Paediatric Dentistry
The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry aims to improve oral health in children and encourage the highest standards of clinical care.

BSPD has over 700 members from university and hospital Paediatric dental departments, the community dental service, specialist paediatric dental practice and general dental practice. Undergraduate students, dental therapists, hygienists and other dental auxiliaries are also encouraged to join at specially reduced rates.

The Society has representation on various committees and bodies involved in the development of oral health strategies, and has produced policy documents on various aspects of oral health and dental care for children.

The Society has 13 regional branches which meet locally on a regular basis. These meetings have an educational as well as a social function, and include speakers invited to update members about new developments in the field and its associated specialities.

International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD)
The International Association of Dentistry for Children, now the IAPD, was founded in 1969 with a national membership of 31 nations and a supporting membership of 270, which grew to over 800 members in 2001.

The aims were to act as an international focus for specialist paediatric dentists and general dental practitioners with an interest in children. Since that time the membership and world wide influence of the association have expanded so that now, through its national societies it represents over 15,000 dentists.

The Objectives of the IAPD

  • To constitute a forum for the exchange of international information concerning paediatric dentistry.
  • To contribute to the progress and promotion of dental health for children and to encourage research in this field.
  • To arrange scientific meetings.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP is open to all dental practitioners. It enables them to attend the international congresses at reduced cost, receive the International Journal of Paediatric Dentitstry and keep in contact with the association and other members through the newletter.

NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP is open to all national societies of paediatric dentristy. The administration of the IAPD is though an elected board and the council that consists of the representatives of the members countries.
