TopAuthor Guidelines

Notes to authors

1. Articles for the International Social Security Review will be examined by the Editorial Board. Contributions will be considered in the light of the overall programme of the Review and of their interest to an international readership, and will be selected on the basis of anonymous (double-blinded) peer review. Full contact details must be provided for each author, and the author for correspondence identified.

2. Authors are strongly advised to consult one or more recent issues of the Review before submitting manuscripts for publication.

3. Manuscripts may be submitted in English, French, German or Spanish (those translated from another language should be accompanied by a copy of the original).

4. Contributions should be accompanied by a statement that they have not already been published, and that, if accepted for publication in the Review, they will not be submitted for publication elsewhere without the agreement of the Editor of the Review.

5. Articles are accepted for publication on the understanding that they are subject to editorial revision and that the right of publication in any form or language is reserved by the ISSA. Proofs of articles accepted for publication cannot be sent to authors.

6. The preferred length of manuscripts is 5,000 to 7,500 words. They may be submitted by email to the following address: issareview@ilo.org. Otherwise, they should be submitted on diskette together with a hard (paper) copy.

7. An abstract of about 100 words should be enclosed with all manuscripts.

8. For note references, authors should use the "Footnotes" (not "Endnotes") function of the word-processing application.

References in Articles
We recommend the use of a tool such as EndNote or Reference Manager for reference management and formatting.
EndNote reference styles can be searched for here:
http://www.endnote.com/support/enstyles.asp

Reference Manager reference styles can be searched for here:
http://www.refman.com/support/rmstyles.asp

9. Bibliographical references may be included in such footnotes or, preferably, compiled in a separate bibliography in the alphabetical order of the authors' surnames, with references in the text following the "author-date" system, e.g. "(Benayoun, 2005)". In either case they should include at least the following information: author's name and initials; date of publication; title (for articles, title in "quotes" plus title of periodical); place of publication and publisher (unnecessary for articles). Titles should always be given in the original language, with translation in parentheses where relevant.

10. Tables and figures should each be numbered consecutively throughout the article. For tables, authors should use the "Table" (not "Graph") function of the word-processing application. Sources should be mentioned and the data on which figures are based should be provided. Tables and figures should be sent as a separate electronic file and/or typed on seperate sheets.

11. Exclusive Licence Form - Authors will be required to sign an Exclusive Licence Form (ELF) for all papers accepted for publication. Signature of the ELF is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless a signed form has been received. Please note that signature of the Exclusive Licence Form does not affect ownership of copyright in the material. (Government employees need to complete the Author Warranty sections, although copyright in such cases does not need to be assigned). After submission authors will retain the right to publish their paper in various media/circumstances (please see the form for further details). To assist authors an appropriate form will be supplied by the editorial office. Alternatively, authors may like to download a copy of the form here

12. Authors are reminded that they must observe the usual rules and practices regarding the reproduction of copyright material in their articles.

13. Manuscripts and editorial correspondence should be addressed to: The Editor, International Social Security Review, Case postale 1, CH-1211 Geneva 22, Switzerland (issareview@ilo.org).
