EDITORIAL POLICY
Die Unterrichtspraxis is dedicated to publishing pedagogical articles, reports, news, discussion, and teaching tips that contribute to the improvement and promotion of German teaching in the United States at all levels. Articles in English or German are accepted. The average time between submission and publication decision is four months, and the average time between publication decision and actual publication is usually less than one year. Authors will receive a PDF offprint of their article and 2 complimentary copies of the issue in which it appears.
MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
Articles up to 15 pages (ca. 3,500 words) are accepted, although shorter manuscripts are very much welcomed. 1 page equals approximately 300 words. Manuscripts submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere as well as manuscripts that have previously been submitted, accepted, or published elsewhere, including on the World Wide Web, can not be considered. Articles are evaluated anonymously by a minimum of two expert readers. Permission for reproducing copyrighted material is required, the author should submit such permission with the final copy submitted for typesetting. Copyright or permission fees are the responsibility of the author.
A Complete Manuscript Submission Includes:
1. Contribution (Article, Report, etc.)
- Omit identifying references to oneself and one's institution.
- Refer to one's own publications in the third person.
2. Separate sheet (or electronic file) with author(s) name(s), affiliation, address, home, school, and fax numbers, e-mail address, title of the paper.
3. Abstract (max. 100 words) on separate sheet (or electronic file).
4. Short bio on separate sheet (or electronic file).

Special Typing Conventions
Double-space all text and notes. One inch (2.5 cm) margin on all sides.
Italicize book titles, citations of foreign words, etc.
Underline only material that is to be underlined in the published form.
Use 'smart' quotes, not 'dumb' quotes.
Right margin ragged (unjustified).
Words at line ends unbroken (no automatic hyphenation).
Titles and section headings flush left.
'Embedded footnotes,' i.e. footnotes inserted automatically by a word processor, may be used.
German text in reformed orthography.
Tables and Illustrations
UP is not printed in color. Submit tables and illustrations with this limitation in mind. When submitting tables or illustrations, please provide them not only embedded in the manuscript, but also on separate sheets (in stand-alone files) ready for printing or duplicating.
Long Quotations
Long citations that will be indented in smaller type in the journal need not be indented in the manuscript if they are marked as quotes in the manuscript.
Permissible Format of Submissions
Paper: Mail a single clean paper original of contribution and separate sheets to the editor. (address below).
Electronic: any of the following (Please send diskettes in a protected diskette mailing envelope):
· E-mail attachment of files in a readable electronic format (see below).
· 3.5' double-sided, double density diskette
· CD-Rom

WordPerfect
A number of other word processor formats (for both Mac and PC) are acceptable. For such questions, consult the editor (up@msu.edu). No manuscript will be rejected solely because a contributor cannot meet these specifications.
Labeling of Diskettes should include:
· Name of the author(s)
· Titles of the text files on the diskette
· Word processor (and version) used
· Date of submission.
