Aims and Scope: Artificial Organs is the official peer reviewed journal of THE International Federation for Artificial Organs (Members of the Federation are: The American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, The European Society for Artificial Organs, and The Japanese Society for Artificial Organs), The International Faculty for Artificial Organs, and the International Society for Rotary Blood Pumps. Artificial Organs publishes original research articles dealing with developments in artificial organs applications and treatment modalities and their clinical applications worldwide. Membership in the Societies listed above is not a prerequisite for publication. Articles are published without charge to the author except for color figures.
Types of Papers: Artificial Organs publishes peer reviewed Main Text and Thoughts and Progress articles, and Communications. Main Text: Original completed research or clinical applications/studies relating to replacement, recovery and regeneration of organs and systems. Thoughts and Progress: Brief communiqués on aspects of artificial organ applications, approaches, philosophies, new ideas, and thoughts for the future. The manuscript should not exceed 12 double-spaced, typewritten pages, including tables, figures and references. Communications: Includes upcoming meetings, summaries of recent meetings, notices of corrections, information about pending legislation, standards recommendations, abstracts, and Letters to the Editor. This section is not peer-reviewed.

Acceptance: The acceptance criteria for all papers are the quality and originality of the research and its significance to our readership. Except where otherwise stated, manuscripts are peer-reviewed by at least two anonymous reviewers and an Editor. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to refuse any material for publication and final acceptance or rejection rests with the Editor-in-Chief. Papers are accepted for publication in the journal on the understanding that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
Extra Page Charges: To encourage authors to write concise articles, a charge of US$150 per page will be levied by the Editorial Office on all excessively lengthy articles. For Main Text original articles 10 pages are free; each additional page or fraction thereof will be charged US$150 per page.
Copyright: As author you remain the copyright owner of the Article, unless copyright is owned by your employer (US Federal Government authors please note: Your Article is in the public domain). Authors must grant Wiley-Blackwell Publishing LTD, on behalf of the International Center for Artificial Organs and Transplantation, exclusive license to publish your article, including the abstract, in printed and electronic form, in all languages, and to administer subsidiary rights agreements with third parties for the full period of copyright and all renewals, extensions, revisions, and revivals. The Article is deemed to include all materials submitted for publication with the exception of Letters, and includes the text, figures, tables, contact details, and all supplementary material accompanying the Article. Acknowledgments: Acknowledgement statements should specify: (i) contributions that require acknowledgement but do not justify authorship, such as general support by a departmental chair, (ii) acknowledgments of technical help, (iii) acknowledgments of financial and material support, which should specify the nature of the support and (iv) relationships that may pose a conflict of interest.

Tables, Figures and Illustrations: Tables should be self-contained and complement, but not duplicate, information contained in the text. Number tables consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals. Color Figures: A charge of US$500 for each page containing color will be charged to the author upon their acceptance of color charges. Proofs: It is essential that authors supply an Email address to which proofs can be sent. A PDF (Portable Document Format) proof will then be sent via Email as a final check of the layout, tables and figures. Acrobat Reader is required to read PDFs. The software can be downloaded (free of charge) from the Adobe Acrobat Reader Website: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.
Offprints: A minimum of 100 offprints will be provided upon request, at the author's expense. An Offprint Order Form will be sent to the corresponding author with the PDF proofs. Offprints will be provided only if a completed Offprint Order Form is returned to the vendor by the specified date.
