TopAuthor Guidelines

The editor welcomes the submission of original empirical research, literature surveys or comparative studies that aim to improve understanding of the role of markets in solving economic and social problems. Economic Affairs also welcomes revisions of papers originally prepared for academic conferences or scholarly publications. All articles should be written in scholarly yet accessible language, and authors should aim to make clear policy conclusions where appropriate. Policy conclusions should relate to the mission of the IEA. The journal covers all areas of economic policy and political economy and also welcomes articles on public choice economics and Austrian economics.

There are three sections for submitted articles: the Symposium section, which tackles a specific theme in each issue and for which articles are commissioned and peer reviewed; the Other Articles section to which authors can submit their work and for which articles are double blind refereed and the Economic Viewpoints section, containing shorter articles, usually of a topical nature, which are reviewed by the editors.

Other Articles should be no more than 4,500 words in length and Economic Viewpoint articles should be no more than 2,000 words in length.

Articles should be submitted to the editor electronically, preferably in MS Word format, at following email address: pbooth@iea.org.uk. Before submitting articles, please email the editor for more detailed submission and editorial guidelines.

Please include with your submission: a brief abstract of approximately 50 words under the title and name; an email address and postal address; and the author's affiliation (as a footnote to the author's name). Any possible conflicts of interest should be declared to the editor.

Book Reviews of no more than 750 words in length will also be considered and should be submitted to the editor, but authors are advised to contact the review editor, John Meadowcroft, first: Jmeadowcroft@iea.org.uk.

Copyright

Economic Affairs cannot consider for publication manuscripts which have already been published, which are being considered by other journals or which contributors are planning to submit to other journals while being considered by Economic Affairs.

Authors will be required to sign an Exclusive Licence Form (ELF) for all papers accepted for publication. Signature of the ELF is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless a signed form has been received. Please note that signature of the Exclusive Licence Form does not affect ownership of copyright in the material. After submission authors will retain the right to publish their paper in various medium/circumstances (please see the form for further details). To assist authors an appropriate form will be supplied by the editorial office. Alternatively, authors may like to download a copy of the form here

Where the author's copyright belongs to the organisation for which s/he works, it will be necessary to sign an exclusive licensing agreement with the publishers in order to deal with requests and income from subsidiary rights to publish. In such cases the author should inform the Editor at the time of submission or at the commissioning stage that copyright cannot be transferred.

It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission to use material which is the copyright of another author or publisher.

Language

Contributions must be submitted in the English language. For guidance, see the Collins Dictionary or Oxford English Dictionary.

Title, Name of Author and Biographical Details

Each article must have a title at the beginning of the article followed by the author's name. Brief biographical details must appear at the end of all contributions, including the official position of the author.

Proofs

Authors whose work has been accepted for publication will receive a CAF from the Editor and a proof of the article direct from Blackwell and are asked to proofread for any typesetting errors. Authors are urged not to add substance to the article after it has been typeset as alterations are extremely expensive. Authors must return the proof and a completed CAF to the Editor within the specified deadline.

Editing Contributions

The Editor reserves the right to alter the text of a contribution in order to make it conform with Economic Affairs editorial style or to compress it into the available number of pages.

Gratis Copies of Contributions

Contributors are entitled to discount purchases of additional copies. Details are available directly from Blackwell.

Author Services enables authors to track their article - once it has been accepted - through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their articles online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production. The author will receive an e-mail with a unique link that enables them to register and have their article automatically added to the system. Please ensure that a complete e-mail address is provided when submitting the manuscript. Visit http://authorservices.wiley.com for more details on online production tracking and for a wealth of resources including FAQs and tips on article preparation, submission and more.
