Presidential Studies Quarterly (PSQ) is the only scholarly journal that focuses on the most powerful political figure in the world - the president of the United States. An indispensable resource for understanding the U.S. presidency, Presidential Studies Quarterly offers articles, features, review essays, and book reviews covering all aspects of the American presidency.
PSQ evaluates submitted research by a double blind peer review process that ensures readers receive only the highest-quality, objective scholarship. The editorial board members include some of the finest scholars and professionals in the discipline.
FORMATTING GUIDELINES FOR ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPTS:
Author's Bio
- Brief biographical paragraph describing current affiliation, research interests, or recent publications.
Abstract
- Approximately 100-word abstract.
- The abstract is left justified and italicized (if there is a title within the abstract, do not underline or italicize).
- It is double-spaced and the first line indented.
Title and Attribution
- The title, author, and author affiliation are at the top of the article, single-spaced, and bold.
- The title is centered in upper and lower case, bold, font size 18, and single-spaced.
- Author's name is centered in upper and lower case, bold, font size 15.
- Author's affiliation is in upper and lower case, italicized (not bold), with font size 13.
Document File and Page Setup
- We prefer MS Word Documents for PCs, but we can accept WordPerfect documents as well.
- All text Times New Roman.
- All text, except headings and title and author, in size 12 font (references and notes included).
- All text double-spaced (except titles).
- Two spaces after the punctuation at the end of every sentence.
- Left justify all text except some headings, title, and author.
- First line of every paragraph indented.
- Number pages consecutively throughout.
- Single-sided pages.
Quotes
- Long quotes are indented 0.5 on both left and right margins.
- Long quotes have spacing of 6 points above and below.
References, Footnotes, Figures and Tables
- No underlines at all. Titles should be italicized instead (including references).
- References are in-text format, and should follow the American Political Science Review.
- References and footnotes should appear on separate pages, double-spaced at the end of the text.
- References in the text should include page numbers where they are appropriate.
- Footnotes are reserved for providing substantive information. (This is important. Many authors are asked to change their footnotes into references.)
- Tables and figures should appear on separate pages at the end of the manuscript.
- Provide more complicated figures in MS Excel
Headings
- Level A: Headings are bold, centered, font size 15. Make the space above the heading 12 points, and the space below 6 points.
- Level B: Headings are bold, left justified, font size 14. Make the space above 6 points and do not indent.
- Level C: Headings are bold, they are italicized, font size 13, followed by a period, two spaces, and then the first line of text for that section. They are not indented. Make the space above the heading 6 points.
- Level D: Headings are bold, font size 12, and followed by a period, two spaces, and then the first line of text for that section. They are indented like the first line of a paragraph.
- The References and Notes sections have a Level A title.

We require a copy of the paper on a diskette and four (4) copies of each manuscript, three of which should have all references removed that could identify the author, and approximately a 100-word abstract.
Manuscripts will not be returned. Presidential Studies Quarterly does not consider manuscripts submitted simultaneously to other journals or those exceeding 50 standard pages (250 words per page). The text should be double-spaced, using reference-in-text format. References and footnotes should appear on separate pages, double-spaced at the end of the text. Tables and figures should also appear on separate pages at the end of the manuscript.

Critical Responses to articles published in Presidential Studies Quarterly are welcome. They should be no longer than eight pages in length, including footnotes and references.
