TopAuthor Guidelines

All manuscripts should be submitted online here.

Manuscripts must be in English. Pages should be numbered sequentially. The maximum length for contributions is 7000 words. Longer contributions can be accepted if there are special reasons, which the author should mention in the cover letter. Short communications should be less than 3000 words.

Include in your cover letter information about related prior or concurrent submissions to other publications. Provide a list (with contact information: email and mailing addresses) of at least three potential referees. The list should not name current or prior collaborators. You are also free to list persons whom you wish to be excluded from the review process.

Author material archive policy - Please note that unless specifically requested, Blackwell Publishing will dispose of all hardcopy or electronic material submitted 2 months after publication. If you require the return of any material submitted, please inform the editorial office or production editor as soon as possible if you have not yet done so.

Title Page
The title page should be submitted as a separate page (in a separate file designated 'title page') containing (1) a brief concise title, (2) authors names, and (3) affiliations. Affiliations should be complete mailing addresses. Unless otherwise noted, all communications will be with the author named first on the title page. Please include a fax number and an email address to facilitate communication during the review process. The title page file will not be accessible during the review process so that the reviewers are unaware of the names of the authors. A new title page has to be uploaded each time a new article or revision is submitted otherwise it will not be reviewed.

Abstract
An abstract of 100 to 200 words should appear at the beginning of the manuscript. Six significant key words should follow the abstract to aid indexing. Include thereafter a brief (up to five sentences) summary of the practical implications headed 'Practical implications'.

Text
This is an interdisciplinary journal. Thus, assume that readers are professionals but not necessarily experts in your field. Provide enough introductory material to establish an appropriate background. Write concisely but not at the expense of clarity. Section headings and subheadings should be marked clearly. The international system of units (SI units) should be used. Equations should be given on separate lines with the equation number in parenthesis at the right-hand margin.

Illustrations
Line drawings suitable for immediate reproduction should be submitted. Keep in mind the reductions that will be used in preparing the final printed page (column width: 86 mm). Use black ink; make lines thick enough and lettering large enough to withstand reduction.

It is the policy of Indoor Air for authors to pay the full cost for the reproduction of their colour artwork. Therefore, please note that if there is colour artwork in your manuscript when it is accepted for publication, Blackwell Publishing requires you to complete and return a colour work agreement form before your paper can be published. This form can be downloaded as a PDF from the internet. The web address for the form is: http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/pdf/SN_Sub2000_X_CoW.pdf

Tables
All tables should carry separate titles and be numbered consecutively. Table columns should each have a heading. Tables should not duplicate data found elsewhere in the manuscript.

Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments of collaboration or preparation may be included as a final section in the manuscript. Please note the source of funding for the research.

References
References to the published literature should be cited in the text by giving the first author's name and year of publication. References should be arranged alphabetically at the end of the text, and all authors' names must be listed. Please abbreviate all journal titles.

Proofs
The corresponding author will receive an email alert containing a link to a web site. A working e-mail address must therefore be provided for the corresponding author. The proof can be downloaded as a PDF (portable document format) file from this site. Acrobat Reader will be required in order to read this file. This software can be downloaded (free of charge) from here.

This will enable the file to be opened, read on screen and printed out in order for any corrections to be added. Further instructions will be sent with the proof. Hard copy proofs will be posted if no e-mail address is available. Excessive changes made by the author in the proofs, excluding typesetting errors, will be charged separately.

Corrections should be made on the proof and faxed to the Publishers within three days of proof receipt. Alterations, other than essential corrections to the text of the paper, should not be made at this stage, the cost of such alterations may be passed on to the author.

Author Services
Online production tracking is now available for your article through Blackwell Publishing's Author Services. Author Services enables authors to track their article - once it has been accepted - through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their articles online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production so they don't need to contact the production editor to check on progress. Visit the website for more details on online production tracking and for a wealth of resources including FAQs and tips on article preparation, submission and more.

Authors are encouraged to visit the Blackwell Publishing manuscript submission website for authors which details further information on the preparation and submission of articles and figures and gives access to the Blackwell house style guide.

Offprints
Offprints can be obtained by using the offprint order form accompanying the proofs.
