Copyright Transfer: Publication in the journal is subject to the condition that the article (as a whole or in part) has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. In submitting the manuscript to the publisher, the author certifies that neither the author's contribution nor any text or figures procured and included by the author infringes upon the rights of a third party, and that the author alone is authorized to dispose of the existing right of utilization. The author will refrain from any other duplication and distribution or digital transfer and reproduction (e.g., on the Internet) during the period of the contract. In order for an article to be distributed as widely as possible in the journal, the author must assign to Wiley-Blackwell the copyright in and to the article, and all rights therein, including but not limited to the right to publish, republish, transmit, sell, distribute and otherwise use the article in whole or in part in electronic and print editions of the Journal and in derivative works throughout the world, in all languages and in all media of expression now known or later developed, and to license or permit others to do so. Reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the final article in whole or in part in any medium by the author as permitted by this Agreement requires a citation to the Journal and an appropriate credit to Wiley-Blackwell as Publisher, and/or the Society if applicable, suitable in form and content as follows: (Title of Article, Author, Journal Title and Volume/Issue, Copyright © [year], copyright owner as specified in the Journal). Links to the final article on Wiley-Blackwell's website are encouraged where appropriate.
Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA)
Authors will be required to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) form. The CTA will allow the publisher to publish the article in print and online, to administer rights, and to follow up on any infringements of copyright. Manuscripts will not be sent to the publisher for production until a CTA form has been signed and submitted. Please submit a completed, signed Copyright Transfer Agreement form when submitting an article for publication. The CTA can be found by clicking on the link http://www.wiley.com/go/ctaus.
OnlineOpen - Online Open is a pay-to-publish service from Wiley-Blackwell that offers authors whose papers are accepted for publication the opportunity to pay up-front for their manuscript to become open access (i.e. free for all to view and download) via the Blackwell Synergy website. Each OnlineOpen article will be subject to a one-off fee of $3000 to be met by or on behalf of the Author in advance of publication. Upon online publication, the article (both full-text and PDF versions) will be available to all for viewing and download free of charge. The print version of the article will also be branded as OnlineOpen and will draw attention to the fact that the paper can be downloaded for free.
Any authors wishing to send their paper OnlineOpen should complete the Online Open Exclusive Licence Form. Please note that this form is for use with OnlineOpen material ONLY. Prior to acceptance there is no requirement to inform an Editorial Office that you intend to publish your paper OnlineOpen if you do not wish to.
Types of papers published
Commentaries consist of brief reviews and opinions on a topic of interest in xenotransplantation, and should generally not exceed 1,000 words. The editors welcome proposals for topics warranting a commentary.
Reviews are comprehensive but concise reviews of topics of interest. There is no absolute limit on length, but normally they should not exceed 3,000 words.
Rapid Communications are original papers of high originality and interest. If submission as a Rapid Communication is considered appropriate by the editors, these papers will be reviewed quickly and, if accepted, published in the next available issue. Non-acceptance as a Rapid Communication does not preclude publication as a regular Original Paper.
Original Papers are full-length reports of completed research relevant to xenotransplantation.
Brief Communications are brief or preliminary reports not exceeding 2500 words, including the abstract. They should be organized in the same way as full-length Original Papers, but the abstract should be no longer than 250 words. The number of references, tables and figures, should be compatible with the length of the paper.
Letters to the Editor that comment on any topic of relevance to xenotransplantation should not normally exceed 500 words and should have a very limited number of references with only a single table or figure, if necessary.
Book Reviews should normally not exceed 500 words.
Manuscripts
The journal now accepts all submissions online. Access to the online submission site is http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/xen and full instructions can be found there.
Please direct any questions or report any problems to the Editorial Office; contact details are above.
Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that the work has not been published before, is not being considered for publication elsewhere, and has been read and approved by all authors. Manuscripts, including tables and figures, should be sent in triplicate. The journal does not hold itself responsible for loss or damage to mailed manuscripts, or for statements made by contributors. (1) The paper should be submitted in English. (2) Type the manuscript (and legends, references, etc.) with wide margins and double-spaced. (3) Begin each manuscript component (title page, abstract, etc.) on a separate page.
Title page
Should contain (1) a concise informative title; (2) author(s)' names; (3) name of department(s)/institution(s) to which the work is attributed; (4) if the title exceeds 40 characters (letters and spaces), a running head of no more than 40 characters should be provided; (5) name, telephone number, fax number, e-mail and postal address of the author to whom correspondence, proofs, and requests for offprints should be directed.
Abstract page
Should contain (1) the word Abstract followed by a summary of the article (2) 3-10 key words according to Index Medicus; (3) abbreviations used.
The Abstract should normally not be longer than 500 words and should be divided into 4 paragraphs, headed Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Abstracts for Reviews and Brief Communications need not be so divided and should not exceed 250 words.
Introduction
Present the background briefly, but do not review the subject extensively. Give only pertinent references. State the specific questions you want to answer.
Materials and methods
Identify methods, apparatus (manufacturer's name and address), and procedures in sufficient detail to allow other workers to reproduce the results. Provide references and only brief descriptions of methods that have been previously published.
Results
Present results in logical sequence in tables and illustrations. In the text, explain, emphasize or summarize the most important observations. Units of measurement should be expressed in accordance with Systeme International d'Unités (SI Units).
Discussion
Do not repeat in detail data given in the Results section. Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study. Relate the observations to other relevant studies. On the basis of your findings (and those of others), discuss possible implications/conclusions. When stating a new hypothesis, clearly label it as such.
Tables
Type each table on a separate sheet, with titles making them self-explanatory.
Illustrations
Figures should clarify the text. Their number should be kept to a minimum. Please submit clearly labeled tables and figures as high-quality TIFF, EPS, or JPEG images. Figure legends must be typed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Figures should be professionally drafted, and the halftones should exhibit high contrast. Details must be large enough to retain their clarity after reduction in size. After reduction, illustrations should preferably fill single-column width (81 mm) although in exceptional cases 2/3 page width (120 mm) or full-page width (168 mm) will be accepted. Any color illustrations must be paid for by the author. If there is colour artwork in your manuscript when it is accepted for publication, Wiley-Blackwell requires you to complete and return a colour work agreement form before your paper can be published in colour. This form is also included with the eproofing documents sent to authors. If you do not return the form within 48 hours of receipt of the proof, we will assume that black and white reproduction is acceptable. This form is a PDF* file.To read PDF files, you must have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you do not have this program, this is available as a free download from the following web address: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

Abbreviations and symbols
Use only standard abbreviations. All units will be metric. In decimals, a decimal point (.), and not a comma, will be used. Avoid abbreviations in the title. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement.
References
These should be kept to the pertinent minimum and numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. Identify references in text, tables, and legends by Arabic numerals (in parentheses). Try to avoid using abstracts as references. Include manuscripts accepted, but not published; designate the abbreviated title of the journal followed by (in press). Information from manuscripts not yet accepted should be cited in the text as (submitted) or, if in final preparation, as (manuscript in preparation). Where there are more than 5 authors to a cited paper, the first 3 names should be given followed by 'et al'. Titles should be abbreviated in accordance with the style used in Index Medicus/MEDLINE. Please use full page ranges.

Author Services
NEW: Online production tracking is now available for articles through Blackwell's Author Services.
Author Services enables authors to track their article - once it has been accepted - through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their articles online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production so they do not need to contact the Production Editor to check on progress. Visit http://authorservices.wiley.com/bauthor/ for more details on online production tracking and for a wealth of resources including FAQs and tips on article preparation, submission and more.
