TopAuthor Guidelines

Statement of Principles

1. Review of International Economics publishes original, high-quality research on a broad range of topics in international economics. Each manuscript is reviewed in an unbiased manner and receives the utmost attention from the Editorial Office and its referees. Manuscripts are judged on the quality of their content alone, making the author's institutional affiliation, race, sex, age, and nationality irrelevant for acceptance decisions.

2. To maintain the highest standards and an ethical review process, the Editorial Office of Review of International Economics upholds, and also appeals to authors and referees to uphold the following principles.

3. Review of International Economics has adopted a double-blind review process; it does not reveal the identities of either authors or referees to others parties in the review process. Authors are asked to write papers in a way that will conceal their identities from referees. To honour this principle, they should refrain from citing forthcoming or working papers. References to these papers that are deemed necessary can be added gracefully in the final version. Referees are asked to write their reports in a way that conceals their own identities from the paper's authors. While careful reports are valued, the referees need not prove the validity of their opinions.

4. A manuscript is submitted with the understanding that the substance of its content has not been published and is not under consideration for publication by another journal or book. Review of International Economics makes every effort to provide authors with timely reports from referees. Referees who return manuscripts within one month will be greatly appreciated.

5. Papers must be in English. Submit (i) one hard copy of the manuscript and a diskette containing a PDF file, or (ii) email a PDF file to the Editor. On acceptance the authors will be asked to provide the application file for their article and any diagrams (preferably Word for the text and .eps for diagrams.

6. Manuscripts should be no more than 35 double-spaced typewritten pages. The Review of International Economics style guides can be obtained from the editorial office.

7.The submission fee is $80 for all authors. Payment may be by check (payable to RIE) or credit card (Visa/Master Card). Provide account number, expiration date, signature, and mail or fax the letter.

8. Submission of a paper will be taken to imply that the paper represents original work not previously published, that it is not being considered elsewhere for publication. Upon acceptance of a paper, authors will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the publisher. The editor does not accept responsibility for damage or loss of paper submitted.

9. The cover page of the manuscript should contain:

(i) the title,
(ii) the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s).

At the bottom of the page, provide the name, address, phone and fax numbers and e-mail address of the corresponding author. Include an abstract of not more than 100 words on a separate page. The first page of the text should not reveal the name(s) of the author(s) . References to unpublished or forthcoming papers should be avoided.

10. A PDF offprint will be supplied to each first-named Contributor of his or her article. The Publisher shall offer the Contributors the opportunity to order additional offprints of their articles prior to publication, on the Publisher's current terms.

References in Articles

There are several software packages available to help authors manage and format the references and footnotes in their journal article. We recommend the use of a software tool such as EndNote or Reference Manager for reference management and formatting.

Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA)

Authors will be required to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) for all papers accepted for publication. Signature of the CTA is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless a signed form has been received. (US Federal Government employees need to complete the Author Warranty sections, although copyright in such cases does not need to be assigned). After submission authors will retain the right to publish their paper in various media/circumstances (please see the form for further details). To assist authors an appropriate form will be supplied by the editorial office. Alternatively, authors may like to download a copy of the form here. Please return your completed form to: E. Kwan Choi, Editor, Review of International Economics, Department of Economics, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011, USA. Alternatively a scanned version of the form can be emailed to kchoi@iastate.edu or faxed to +1 515 294 9913.

Early View

Review of International Economics is covered by Blackwell Publishing's Early View service. Early View articles are complete full-text articles published online in advance of their publication in a printed issue. Articles are therefore available as soon as they are ready, rather than having to wait for the next scheduled print issue. Early View articles are complete and final. They have been fully reviewed, revised and edited for publication, and the authors' final corrections have been incorporated. Because they are in final form, no changes can be made after online publication. The nature of Early View articles means that they do not yet have volume, issue or page numbers, so Early View articles cannot be cited in the traditional way. They are therefore given a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), which allows the article to be cited and tracked before it is allocated to an issue. After print publication, the DOI remains valid and can continue to be used to cite and access the article.
