The Journal of American Culture, edited at Virginia Wesleyan College, showcases articles on the Americas, especially those addressing broad and substantive cultural issues. It includes research on entertainment media and the popular arts that characterizes and illuminates life in the Americas in the twenty-first century. The journal also provides a steady and wide-ranging forum for aesthetic, historical, sociological, and ethical inquiries into the diverse cultures of the Americas, representing various times, places, and orientations, with a view toward creating a useful resource for all, with articles written in accessible language and reflecting interdisciplinary approaches and comparative analyses that will be of interest to the American Culture Association's diverse membership.
MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION Authors should submit papers in current MLA style with a works cited page and a minimum of endnotes. Electronic submissions, sent in Microsoft Word via e-mail attachments to jac@vwc.edu, are preferred. However, we will also accept two copies of the paper for the peer-review process, as well as a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want them returned. Upon acceptance of your work, you will be required to submit the material electronically via e-mail attachment or on disk in PC/IBM format. Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must subscribe to JAC for at least one year at the time of acceptance. Subscription includes membership in the American Culture Association.
Manuscripts should be addressed to Kathy Merlock Jackson, Editor, The Journal of American Culture, Virginia Wesleyan College, 1584 Wesleyan Drive, Norfolk, VA 23502-5599. Book review inquiries should be sent to Ray Browne, Popular Culture Library, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH 43403.
Please note that Word 2007 is not yet compatible with journal production systems. Unfortunately, the journal cannot accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents until such time as a stable production version is released. Please use Word's 'Save As' option therefore to save your document as an older (.doc) file type.
ARTWORK We are happy to receive your artwork in digital format. There are three preferred formats for digital artwork submission: Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), Portable Document Format (PDF), and Tagged Image Format (TIFF). We suggest that line art be saved as EPS files. Alternately, these may be saved as PDF files at 600 dots per inch (dpi) or better at final size. Tone art, or photographic images, should be saved as TIFF files with a resolution of 300 dpi at final size. For combination figures, or artwork that contains both photographs and labeling, we recommend saving figures as EPS files, or as PDF files with a resolution of 600 dpi or better at final size. More detailed information on the submission of electronic artwork can be found at http://authorservices.wiley.com/bauthor/illustration.asp
