TopAuthor Guidelines

Manuscripts should be submitted online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tct

To submit a paper, you will need your files in an electronic format, an Internet connection and a user ID and password for the site. Go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tct and Check for existing account if you have submitted to or reviewed for The Clinical Teacher before, or have forgotten your details. If you are new to the journal, Create a new account. Once your manuscript has been successfully uploaded you will receive an automated e-mail to acknowledge receipt, and you will be able to track its progress through the review system by logging into your author centre.

Full online tutorials and help pages are available to authors and reviewers, and there is round-the-clock support from ScholarOne, the US-based company which produces the ManuscriptCentral software.

Please supply the following three documents:

(1) The anonymous manuscript

The Clinical Teacher uses a system of double-blind review. Your manuscript for review should therefore not contain any details which could identify the authors to the reviewers.
Manuscripts should not exceed 1,500 words with a maximum of ten suggestions for further reading. The manuscript should be double-spaced with a wide margin (at least 3 cm) on either side. The writing should be clear and concise and we encourage the use of short sentences and the active voice. Figures, boxes, tables and images are a feature of The Clinical Teacher and there is room for at least one of these per 400 words of text. Any material copied from other sources must be accompanied by a written statement from both author and publisher giving permission for reproduction in both print and electronic digital form. High quality digital images should be uploaded as separate files.
References and suggestions for further reading should be set out according to the format recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (Vancouver Guidelines). We advise authors to retain a copy of the manuscript and any tables or figures.

(2) The identifying document
Every manuscript should have an identifying document. A template for this is available online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tct. The identifying document should contain the title of the paper and the name(s), postal address(es) and email address(es) of the author(s), and an indication of which author should be contacted for correspondence.
Details of any conflicts of interest and sources of funding should be supplied. When reporting research on human subjects, the work must comply with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki (1964), and authors must confirm, where appropriate, that informed consent was given. Authors must also disclose any commercial or other associations that might pose a conflict of interest in connection with their article.

(3) Copyright assignment form

No papers can be published without a signed copyright assignment form. Authors must sign this form to certify that the articles submitted for publication in The Clinical Teacher have not been published and are not being considered for publication elsewhere. A template of this form is available online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tct. A hard copy, with the original signatures of all authors, must be returned by post or fax to the editorial office at the time of submission. Please note: manuscripts will not be accepted for review unless this form is received.

Page proofs

Submitted articles will be copy edited for style. We reserve the right to undertake extensive editing where it is felt necessary.

Page proofs will be supplied as electronic files for checking the text and figures. They must be read and returned within 3 days of receipt. If they have not been returned, it will be assumed that there are no corrections to be made. The proofs will be read and checked by Blackwell and the Editor.
