On an RGB color monitor, combinations of three color signals can produce 8 colors:

Red             Green           Blue            Result

on (binary 1)   off (binary 0)  off             red

on              off             on              magenta
off             on              on              cyan
on              on              off             yellow
on              on              on              white
off             off             off             black
