The 2nd edition of Computing in the Information Age has been streamlined with approximately 100 fewer pages. We have integrated 4 new themes: Hardware, Software, Connectivity and People. This new edition has been updated to include the latest in technologies such as: integrated multimedia packages, artificial intelligence and Windows '95. The text encourages critical thinking throughout with questions called out in the margins as well as critically oriented cases and questions at the end of each chapter.
We have developed an Annotated Instructor's Manual to accompany the text instead of creating an AIE. This unique resource integrates the entire text package to help instructors organize the text and supplementary materials into an informative and exciting course. A detailed outline of the text is annotated with suggestions for the use of video, software, transparencies, and World Wide Web sites, and an explanation of how to incorporate it into the text coverage. It also includes overviews, lecture introductions and extenders, teaching hints, review question and case study solutions, activities and exercises, and advice to first-time instructors.
There are two multimedia CD-ROMS to accompany the text. The Information Age CD includes Passport (multimedia presentation of the use of technology and software tools), electronic transparencies illustrating text concepts and exciting demos of commercial multimedia software. The How Multimedia Computers Work CD is a fast, easy and entertaining way to discover today's multimedia computers. A colorful animated host, Zip Data, together with two video narrators, helps students see exactly how each part of the computer works: How it processes data, where the RAM and ROM chips are located, and how an electron gun lights the monitor.
A selection of news segments from "Nightly Business Report," the longest running, most watched daily business, financial, and economic news program on television, is available as a companion to the text. NBR anchors provide lead-ins to tie video segments directly to text coverage.
Yes, the Test Bank for the 2nd edition has been completely re-written by two new authors. The new Test Bank now has a good variety of questions with multiple-choice, true-false, fill-in the blank, essay and matching type questions. There are very few questions in which the answers are "all the above or none of the above" as well as very few "giveaways." The Test Bank reviewed very well in both the 2 year and the 4 year schools.
