Density as an Intensive Property

Density is the ratio between the mass of a sample and its volume. Since it is a ratio, it will always be the same regardless of how much of the sample it measured. When a property, like density, is independent of the amount of sample measured, it is known as an "intensive" property. The animation below shows that the density of a square block is the same regardless of which piece of the block is measured.
