Slide 1: The Great Salt Lake along with other Saline lakes such as Mono Lake
in California are found in the Great Basin--between the Sierra Nevada Mountains to
the west and the Rocky Mountains on the east. As discussed in Case #1, the
region has gone through extensive east-west stretching which has produced a series
of sediment-filled grabens (basins) and north-south trending horsts (ranges) that
are known collectively as the Basin and Range Province. The following website
