Slide 2: A savanna bush-woodland formation near the town of Rutshuru. This site is farther upslope from the previous slide at approximately 1200-1300 meters above sea-level. As one travels vertically upslope from Lake Edward (on the lower slopes of the Virunga volcanoes) vegetation becomes denser and less sclerophytic. This bush-woodland formation is quite drought adapted and single-structured or layered. A woodland of this type has many plants that are adapted to long dry seasons and periodic fire.
